Slottsfjell is an idyllic summer festival set against the beautiful twilit fjörds of Tønsberg, with a wealth of major international stars and a choice cross-section of acts drawn from the Norwegian indie/pop scene.
This year, New Order play their first gig in Norway for many years (upon reforming in late 2011, Bernard Sumner said: "the more I thought about the idea of us working together again as New Order, the more I thought it would be a great idea. We've got 30 years of brilliant material and it seemed a shame to waste it"), so expect a fevered atmosphere from the always-sold-out crowd.
Wild Beasts have made as much of a splash in Norway as they have in England; Janelle Monáe ups the pop quotient; US post-rock legends Tortoise represent for the leftfield; and rising Nordic-region indie-pop stars like Sandra Kolstad, Team Me and Sóley make sure fresh local talent is well represented.
Slottsfjell is a festival with a thrillingly diverse lineup in a spot of natural beauty. From watching your favourite bands on the hilltop stage as the sun sets over the fjords, to hitting the late-night after parties and warehouse stage, this is a festival to remember.
