The group's singer - who is currently launching his debut solo album - can't understand why fans assumed they would never record together again after they announced they were going on hiatus in February 2010.
He said: "Fall Out Boy never broke up. That never happened. We really need a sarcasm font on the internet. We never had that conversation.
"A lot of kids would come up to me and say 'It really sucks you guys broke up', I'm like, 'Man, unless you know something I don't...
"We just went on a break, you know, whatever. I just wanted to clear that up."
While Patrick is working on solo material, guitarist Joe Trohman and drummer Andy Hurley formed The Damned Things and bassist Pete Wentz is now working with Black Cards.
Despite Patrick's comments, Pete has previously admitted he can't imagine performing with Fall Out Boy again.
He tweeted last year: "A hiatus is forever until you get lonely or old. I don't plan on either. Can't imagine playing in FOB again.(sic)"
He later added: "As a band we grew apart. Letting go of this giant part of my life has been hard."
