Peter Berg ‘protected Rihanna from sharks’

(Cover) - EN Movies - Peter Berg says his biggest challenge while making Battleship was protecting Rihanna from being "eaten by a shark".

The director of the sci-fi movie constantly worried that the pop beauty might come to harm on the set of the ocean-based film.

In Battleship, Rihanna plays naval Petty Officer Raikes and had to film some of her scenes in the open sea.

"I honestly think it [my biggest challenge] was that Rihanna never got eaten by a shark. My fear was that I was going to be the director who was filming and Rihanna got eaten by a shark," he told Collider.com. "So I was very careful; when she was in the water I had men around her in the water who would go like this [makes shark fin gesture] so we could get her out."

The filmmaker also talked about coming up with the designs for the aliens who are trying to invade Earth in the movie.

He explained that he wanted the creatures to have human qualities so their plan to take over the planet would make sense.

"I always wanted to make an alien film; I'm a big fan of E.T. and it was a lot of fun for me to work with the designers and create my own idea of what I thought the aliens should look like. I wanted them to be somewhat human-like, I wanted them to come from a planet that was similar to ours so they have a respiratory system, a neurological system, two eyes, two hands, two legs… They look similar to us, but when you look close they actually look quite different," he said.
