It's sort of difficult to believe, but after 12 years, Pink finally has her first #1 debut, as The Truth About Love will top next week's Billboard Top 200, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Even more impressive? She accomplished the feat by out-gunning Kayne West and the Killers.
Yes, Love sold more than 280,000 copies to claim the top spot, blasting by the West-helmed G.O.O.D. Music comp Cruel Summer, which sold 205,000 copies, and the Killers' Battle Born, which sold more than 113,000. Pink's previous chart high came with 2008's Funhouse, which opened at #2 with sales of more than 180,000 copies.
Last week's chart champ, the Dave Matthews Band, falls to #4 with Away From The World, which sold 62,000 copies in its second week of release. Little Big Town's Tornado is next at #5, selling more than 50,000 copies. Behind them are a pair of other debuts: Carly Rae Jepsen's Kiss, which sold nearly 46,000 copies, and Grizzly Bear's Shields, with sales of nearly 39,000 copies.
The rest of the top 10 is rounded out by Bob Dylan's Tempest (#8, more than 35,000 copies sold), the Avett Brothers' The Carpenter (#9, just over 30,000 copies sold) and the reunited Ben Folds Five, whose first album in more than a decade, The Sound of the Life of the Mind, sold nearly 30,000 copies to open at #10.
Outside the top 10, there were debuts from Band of Horses, whose Mirage Rock sold more than 24,000 copies to bow at #13, Dwight Yoakam (#18, selling nearly 19,000 copies of Three Pears) and Tech N9ne, whose E.B.A.H. EP sold more than 14,000 copies to open at #31.
Over on the iTunes charts, G.O.O.D Music's Cruel Summer debuted at #1, with Pink's The Truth About Love in at #2 and the Killers' Battle Born at #3. Next week's charts are sure to see even more big debuts, with albums like Mumford & Sons' Babel, Green Day's ¡Uno! and No Doubt's Push and Shove all expected to bow in the Top 10. Has Pink gotten the chart spot that's due to her? Let us know in the comments!
