Pusha T has a great deal of pride in his poetry, and with his first-ever solo album, My Name Is My Name the G.O.O.D. Music rap vet wants to make a powerful statement. On Tuesday (April 30), Push announced that fans will get to hear it all when the albm drops on July 16.
Last night, the Clipse MC performed with Fabolous in New York City for the second Big Apple stop in their The Life is So Exciting Tour and in the weeks leading up to the tour, Pusha spoke to MTV News about the LP.
One of the Virginia lyricist's motivations for My Name is My Name was to make MTV News' "Hottest MCs in the Game" list. While he just narrowly missed the #10 spot in February, he maintained that "your list was good man; it was just a little off, but it was good."
The album has been a longtime in the making for Pusha, who released his first group album with his brother Malice back in 2002. Last year he sat with us and broke down My Name is My Name, though we're sure the project has gone through some changes since then. "I don't think there's any point on this album where I thought twice about anything I was about to say, regardless of who it might've touched or affected or annoyed," he told us then.
Even Pusha's G.O.O.D. Music captain Kanye West is impressed. "He was like, 'Damn you painted some hell of a picture in this joint,' " Pusha recalled 'Ye telling him. "I was like, 'Well, I guess the streets will be happy.' "
