The 2013 mtvU Woodies Festival will have an extra dose of swag this year with the addition of a dedicated MTV Jams stage.
The Festival, which will take place on March 14 during the annual South By Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas, will include a full day of music. The inaugural Jams stage will feature sets from a number of up-and-coming hip-hop acts throughout the day, including some MTV Artists to Watch such as Joey Bada$$, Trinidad James, Travi$ Scott and other artists to be named later.
Relatedly, "Thrift Shop" duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis will headline at the Woodies, and other acts performing at the Festival this year include English indie rockers Alt-J and singer/songwriter Jake Bugg.
Hip-hop is well represented among the nominees at this year's Woodies, with MGK, A$AP Rocky and Kendrick Lamar leading a pack that also includes Fun., Grimes, Walk the Moon and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes in the coveted Woodie of the Year race.
Woodie Award voting runs through March 14 at 4 p.m. ET. Be sure to tune in March 17 at 9 p.m. ET on MTV and mtvU, when we'll air a half-hour 2013 Woodie Awards special (performers announced at a later date.)
EDM star Dillon Francis leads the pack of nominees for the Breaking Woodie honor, which also includes twenty one pilots, Alt-J, Earl Sweatshirt, Gold Fields, the Lumineers and Zedd. Among those vying for Best Video Woodie are: Best Coast, "The Only Place"; Chairlift, "Met Before"; Danny Brown, "Grown Up"; Father John Misty, "Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings"; Major Lazer, "Get Free"; Of Monsters and Men, "Little Talks"; and Skrillex, "Bangarang."
