R&B star R. Kelly stormed out of an awkward interview with HuffPost Live on Monday (21Dec15) after the host brought up old allegations of sexual abuse.
The I Believe I Can Fly singer was taking part in a question-and-answer session hosted by The Huffington Post and moderated by journalist Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani, mainly to discuss his recent album, The Buffet.
Modarressy-Tehran noted the disappointing sales of his latest record, compared to those of his 2013 release Black Panties, and questioned whether he thinks fans are "conflicted" about supporting him as an artist, versus supporting him as a man who was once plagued by legal troubles.
The question referenced his 2008 legal case, when Kelly was found not guilty on counts of videotaping himself having sex with an underage girl.
Kelly argued illegal downloads are to blame for the dip in sales and insisted he "can't please" everyone, as the two continued to clash and speak over each other.
"I didn't come here for negative (comments)," he sniped at Modarressy-Tehran. "I came here for positive (sic)."
"I don't give people that's negative towards me the time of day (sic)," he continued. "When you start getting negativity coming at you, you pretty much don't wanna hear that crap. Especially if it was, what, I don't know how many years ago.
So what I'm gonna tell you is that I am going to sit here and gonna talk to you like the beautiful lady you are, and I'm gonna talk to you with respect but I'm gonna let you know that any other negative things come at me out of your mouth, as far as negativity, I'm gonna get up and walk out and I'm gonna go to McDonald's... I'm going to go home to Chicago, play me some basketball, go to the studio and work on my next album.
"I did not come here to get interrogated. I didn't come here for a deposition. Do you know what a deposition is?"
Kelly then abruptly stood up, took his microphone off and walked off the set of the live Internet telecast, but not before telling Modarressy-Tehrani that she's "so beautiful".
