The Bridget Jones's Diary star has teamed up with Lifetime for her new TV project, Cinnamon Girl.
Cinnamon Girl follows four young women navigating the Los Angeles music and movie scenes throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s.
The show - created by Renee and Warrior writer Anthony Tambakis - is said to be inspired by her own journey from small-town Texas to Hollywood stardom.
Zellweger will take on the role of executive producer on the project alongside Anthony and Gavin O'Connor.
Lifetime president Nancy Dubuc said in a statement: 'Renee's passion, clarity of character and deep emotion for this project immediately transported us to the late '60s/early '70s and created a resonance with us wanting to relive that energy.
'Cinnamon Girl is a game changer for our network and is exactly the type of show we want to deliver.'
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 42-year-old added: 'We're thrilled to be partnering with Nancy Dubuc and Rob Sharenow, who share our enthusiasm and creative intentions, and we believe the timing is perfect for Cinnamon Girl to have found a home at Lifetime.'
