An effective boss knows when to step back and let his team members play to their strengths. On the Miami set of Wale's "Bag of Money" video, Maybach Music CEO Rick Ross relinquished control and gave video director Colin Tilley carte blanche.
"Every time I always got his treatments, I never understood what the hell he was talking about in his treatments, but the end results were always dope," Rozay told this past weekend from the video set. "After talking to him, he let me know he approaches his videos like art, so I let him have his freedom on this one."
Tilley has definitely earned the right, having already clocked in beautiful clips with Chris Brown ("Deuces," "Yeah 3X"), Justin Bieber ("U Smile") and Lil Wayne ("John").
On the T-Pain-assisted "Bag of Money," Ross, Wale and Meek Mill liken the objects of their affection to a sack of cash. "My chick bad/ Lookin' like a bag of money," Rozay spits on the song's hook.
Technically, the track is Wale's single, but it will appear on the trio's upcoming Self Made, Vol. 2 label compilation. "This is the introduction record letting the world know that we're about to release another project together," Wale said. "Self Made, Vol. 1: The streets were loving it so much that it's almost inevitable that we had to do it. This is the first record. We going directly at the MMG ladies."
Ross explained: "This was us in the studio just really exchanging tour stories, vibes, just really having a good time and saluting all the sexy ladies. You looking like a bag of money baby, you looking like motivation, so consider yourself that."
As far as the song's visuals, the MMG boys wanted to keep things simple. "It's a nice setting, a lot of pretty girls," Meek said about Tilley's set.
Wale added: "We wanted something clean, something clean and sharp. We could've went with a premise or story, but it's just clean. We want people to see the artistic side of Maybach Music."
