Rick Ross has remained off the radar since he was the target of a drive-by shooting incident late in January, but he made a very public appearance at theGrammy Awards on Sunday night (February 10), looking as dapper as ever.
In his first interview since the incident, Bawse assured MTV News' Sway Calloway that the shooting has not deterred him from making music.
Ross was up for Best Rap Album with God Forgives, I Don't, and even though the honor ultimately went to Drake, the Miami rapper was all smiles and brimming with confidence. "[God Forgives] was a long time in the works. I took my time with that album I put a lot into it," he said. "A lot of special collaborations — from Andre 3000, as well as my MMG cohorts, [and it was] Grammy-nominated for album of the year, it's amazing."
"Just being nominated, the feeling is surreal and I just feel blessed for the opportunity," he added. "That's what we in this for, that's what we work for. That's what we put in the long hours for, so it's wonderful."
While it was clearly a celebratory night for Ross, there was no avoiding the lingering questions about the events of January 28, when a gunman opened fire on his car in the wee hours of the morning. More than two dozen bullets were directed at Ross' car, causing him to crash into a nearby building, but thankfully, he escaped unharmed. Police have yet to identify a suspect, Ross revealed.
"[There are] no suspects and we not here to speculate on any suspects," he said, matter-of-factly. "I'm just staying positive, I'm moving forward and I'm just staying on top of my game." Ross did admit, though, that he's made some changes to protect himself. "You most definitely gotta make some adjustments, but at the same time I'ma live my life and I'ma do what I love to do, and that's make music." With that said, expect plenty of music from Maybach Music Group in the coming months, including Ross' next album Mastermind.
"MMG, we got the biggest releases of this year coming so that's my focus. Mastermind this year, Wale coming, Stalley coming, Omarion coming — the team coming. We working."
