Although he claims he wasn't aware of the court date, Rick Springfield was arrested and taken to the Lost Hills sheriff's station on Friday on a bench warrant for missing the appearance for a past DUI arrest.
Fortunately, the police and courts were forgiving, releasing the singer after his wife brought in all of the proper paperwork. He even joked about it on Facebook, saying:
My home away from home. Lost hills sheriff station. Arrested this am on a bench warrant. I didn't know that I was supposed appear in court a few weeks ago. It was to do with the old DUI charge and it's been cleared up and i am free to go. Thought I might miss the gig tonight but I will be there and we will celebrate together.
Life is not boring.
The court date stemmed from a 2011 arrest where he was caught speeding on the Pacific Coast Highway and was found to be under the influence of alcohol. He eventually pleaded no contest and was ordered into a three-month alcohol education program. The purpose for the latest court date was not immediately available but it could be assumed that it was to check on the proper completion of that program.
Springfield went on to play his date on Friday night at Eagle Mountain Casino in Porterville, CA. He will also be playing next week at SXSW with Dave Grohl's Sound City Players.
