When asked about the special edition of the show that is being released he said: 'We thought the best way to celebrate the anniversary of The Office was to make people buy it again.'
Gervais later said that working with Larry David on an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm was 'the most fun I ever had.'
Speaking on the talk show Live With Regis and Kelly on Wednesday the 50-year-old said: 'It was the most fun I ever had, working on that. It was just fantastic.'
The Office creator added: 'I played a twisted version of myself, which I have been making other people do for years in things like Extras, and I realise why they do it now. It's so much fun to make a complete fool out of yourself under your own name.'
Gervais says he loved playing up his nasty side.
'I was playing the most arrogant, narcissistic, pretentious, person. When you do that you say, 'oh I can't really be like that', and try and make it a bluff. Then you want to take it further and further.'
He also joked about the riches that The Office has brought him.
'Let me put it this way, when I go for lunch with Larry David I pick up the bill,' he said. 'Because he pretends he's forgotten his wallet, that's why.'
