Gervais, who was appearing on The View, defended the sacked Two And A Half Men star after one of the show’s hosts, Sherri Shepherd, said she didn’t think Sheen’s stage show was funny.
“Well, he’s not a stand-up comedian is he?” said the 49-year-old Extras star in response to Shepherd’s comments.
“I think he’s going through a bit of a phase at the moment,” he added, grinning. “I’m a bit worried that he’s being exploited to be honest.”
The Office star added that he is glad that Sheen has given up his hard-partying ways.
“It’s nice now that he’s realised that a ‘quiet night in’ doesn’t have to mean on a life-support machine. So he’s sorted that bit out,” he joked.
The British funnyman, who currently stars in the HBO comedy Talking Funny, alongside Chris Rock, went on to comment about Sheen's ex-porn star “goddess girlfriends”.
'And I’m glad to see he’s dating, although I do want to tell him that there are some women in the world who haven’t videoed every orgasm they’ve ever had,' he laughed.
