The British funnyman took aim at several celebs while he hosted that show earlier this year, but said Johnny was one of the most forgiving.
“He is alright, he’s in the new show,” Gervais said about landing Depp to make a cameo appearance in his latest project, Life’s Too Short.
“People said, ‘You’ve insulted everyone, Johnny Depp is furious’,” he continued, “so I sent him an email and said ‘Sorry about the Globes,’ and he said, ‘I loved it, of course I wasn’t annoyed.”
But he admitted that he didn’t approach Depp’s co-star Angelina Jolie to appear on the show. “I didn’t ask her, she didn’t look so happy!” he said.
Another Hollywood heavyweight who had praise for Ricky’s controversial awards gig was Robert De Niro.
“[He] called me up after the Globes and said, ‘Good job, you were great, would you like me to talk to anyone?’ I thought he was going to have someone whacked!” he joked on the Graham Norton Show.
“I didn’t buy the controversy about the Globes, who did I really offend?”
