The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) will present the 39-year-old Grammy Award-winning singer with the award at its annual Media Awards in New York, on 19 March.
The award goes to an openly lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender (LGBT) media professional who has made a significant difference promoting equal rights for the LGBT community.
Glee star Kristin Chenoweth is also being honoured by the organisation for her work to promote better understanding.
Chenoweth will receive the Vanguard Award at an event in Los Angeles on 10 April.
The award is given to media professionals who have increased the visibility and understanding of the LGBT community.
Last year, the 42-year-old actress defended gay actors' ability to play straight roles.
