Rihanna has never been one to shy away from taking risks. This self-proclaimed rebel has made statements through her music, her videos or her personal style. But there is one part of her life where she tends to be a little more guarded: her love life.
"[I'm] rebellious through my music, through my fashion, tattoos, and my hair. I have been conservative in my love life. ... It's pretty much nonexistent," Rihanna told Harper's Bazaar in an interview for their August issue. "If I come across someone who I find really cool, I'll hang out. But the minute I find that we're getting too close I just — I don't let people in."
Yet, there are still rumors that she is close with her ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown. The former couple, who parted ways after his 2009 assault of Rihanna, collaborated on two remix tracks earlier this year, including her single "Birthday Cake," which was met with some harsh criticism from both fanbases.
"The fans could have said, 'We don't want anything to do with it,' " she said. "I understood that people had every right to be concerned about it. But I didn't see it that way because I'm in a different place."
Even though she may be in a different place it doesn't mean she is ready to jump back into a relationship. While she doesn't mention any names in the interview, she does reveal just how much she was hurt by a former love.
"When I was in love, I fell so hard. I was really, really, really in love. The way it made me feel was priceless. And in a blink of an eye, my whole life changed," Rihanna said. "Everything that I knew was different. I never thought I'd feel that pain in my life. I'm afraid of feeling that again."
Rihanna, graces not two covers for the magazine. And though she may be hesitant to begin another relationship, but she has no trouble stepping out of her boundaries when it comes to her style. On the first cover, the Barbadian beauty dons a Calvin Klein Collection dress, while the other she rocks Tom Ford snake-skin boots. Yet, she says that there is still one major accessory that's missing.
"I don't know if there's something going on with my body right now, but I'm eating everything in life!" she laughs. "I miss my ass. It just went away! I need a butt. I have an idea of one, but it's not living up to its full potential right now."
The August issue of Harper's Bazaar hits newsstands July 17.
