"Law & Order: SVU" writers have frequently ripped storylines right from the headlines, but they may have taken some cues from the gossip pages for this week's episode. Dubbed "Funny Valentine," Wednesday's episode follows "a familiar story of two celebrities intertwined by abuse."
After a trailer for the episode was released last week, many have deduced that the episode is heavily inspired by Chris Brown's assault of girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.
Ahead of this week's premiere, MTV News has an exclusive first look at a clip from the buzzed-about episode. The clip features Detective Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) trying to persuade a female pop singer, Micha Green, (Tiffany Robinson) to press charges against her pop star boyfriend, Caleb Bryant (Roca), after he assaults her. But, she refuses to be portrayed as a "victim" and take it to trial. The episode also includes cameos from Perez Hilton, Dave Navarro and Wendy Williams.
Whether or not the episode has been inspired by Brown and Rihanna will be left up to fans, but after spending several years apart, the two Grammy winners have gone public with their reconciled relationship. Last week, they spent her birthday together in Hawaii and in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, she opened up about getting back together with him.
"When you add up the pieces from the outside, it's not the cutest puzzle in the world," Rihanna says. "You see us walking somewhere, driving somewhere, in the studio, in the club, and you think you know. But it's different now. We don't have those types of arguments anymore. We talk about sh--. We value each other. We know exactly what we have now, and we don't want to lose that."
