Broadcasting regulator Ofcom is to investigate Rihanna and Christina Aguilera's performances on the final of this year's X Factor.
More than 2,750 people complained about both singer's routines, which featured revealing costumes and scantily clad backing dancers.
Many upset viewers also contacted Gigwise, with some comparing the performances to "soft porn".
Ofcom will now investigate whether the ITV programme violated section 1.3 of the broadcasting code, which says that "children must be protected by appropriate scheduling from material that is unsuitable for them".
An X Factor spokesperson defend the performances in a statement last week, reports the Press Association.
The final of this year's X Factor was won by Matt Cardle, who claimed the Christmas number one spot at the weekend.
