Rihanna reportedly acted as Katy Perry's "unofficial therapist" after her divorce.
The Roar singer recently opened up about the aftermath of her split from Russell Brand. She revealed she even contemplated suicide after receiving a text message from the British comedian asking for divorce in December 2011 and struggled to come to terms with the end of her relationship.
Although they are thought to have had their ups and downs, including Katy disapproving of Rihanna's on-off relationship with Chris Brown, the Bajan singer is said to have been on hand when her close pal was in desperate need of help.
"As soon as Katy called her to say what had happened, Rihanna dropped everything to help," a close friend to Katy revealed to British magazine Look. "Katy was at her lowest point ever and nobody seemed to be able to get through to her apart from her... She seemed to become Katy's unofficial therapist."
Russell has since moved on to a string of women, most recently activist and writer Jemima Khan. Katy has settled down with musician John Mayer, who has previously dated the likes of Jennifer Aniston and Taylor Swift.
Now she is feeling happier, Katy is reportedly keen to be there for Rihanna if she ever needs a shoulder to cry on. The insider believes Rihanna was the main reason Katy managed to overcome her troubles.
"If Rihanna hadn't stepped in when she did, who knows where Katy would be these days. She really is an incredible friend," they added.
