Rihanna insists that her provocative image is not really her, and just a 'part [she] plays'.
The 23-year-old Barbadian singer is renowned for her risqué stage routines, dance moves and highly-sexed lyrics.
She has even caused controversy with a number of edgy videos to accompany her songs. Rihanna was tied up and taped to a wall in the video for her hit song S&M.
The stunning star appears on the cover of the November edition of Vogue magazine wearing a short blonde wig, and has discussed her sexy persona.
She insists that it's all an act.
'That's not me. That's a part I play,' she explained. 'You know, like it's a piece of art. I just want to make music.'
Rihanna's parents are Monica Braithwaite and Ronald Fenty, who is a former drug addict. The songstress says her lifestyle as a youngster prompted her rebellious attitude.
' saw too much. I was way too mature for my age,' she revealed.
Rihanna was left humiliated last week, when farmer Alan Graham stopped her We Found Love video shoot on his land in Northern Ireland.
Graham had agreed for one of his fields in Bangor, County Down, to be used as a backdrop for shooting on the promo. However, he protested when he saw Rihanna's revealing clothes.
The singer and crew were asked to leave after he dubbed Rihanna's outfit inappropriate.
She is currently performing her European leg of her worldwide Loud Tour.
