Ahead of the BRIT Awards airing at 8 p.m. on ITV tonight Wednesday, Shazam announces its predictions of the artists and songs likely to take home awards in leading categories including:
• British Breakthrough Act – Rita Ora
• British Single Artist – Alex Clare, "Too Close"
• British Female Solo Artist – Emeli Sandé
• British Male Solo Artist – Calvin Harris
• British Group – One Direction
Shazam bases its predictions for the BRITs on the tag data of its vast user base of more than 14 million people in the UK, who used the Shazam App to tag songs between January and December of 2012 and discover more information about the tracks they liked.
As such, Shazam tag data has previously proven to be very effective in predicting what's bound to be hot and win awards, including most recently the Grammys, where Shazam correctly predicted:
• 3 of the 4 top awards:
1. Record of the Year = Gotye,
2. Song of the Year = Fun,
3. Best New Artist = Fun
• 3 of the 5 genre performance categories
• 4 of the 7 best songs by genre
