Secret Machines new single

When Secret Machines cut their first record September 2000, it sounded like it was full of the wide open spaces of the Texas they grew up in. After relocating to New York City, and the shared confines of a loft apartment/rehearsal room, their debut album proper Now Here Is Nowhere (released April ‘04) was imbued with the spirit and the energy of the big city, the intensity of close-quarter living and common purpose infused their sound making it bolder and more structured. Their new album Ten Silver Drops was conceived on the road, the songs evolving in front of their own growing legion of fans, and those of others they toured with.. Interpol, Chemical Brothers, Oasis and Kings of Leon.

Ten Silver Drops in the words of Brandon Curtis is “more focused and a little sharper” than it's predecessor. It's a more personal record lyrically, and also in the sense that the band produced it themselves (with the help of engineer Brandon Mason) at the secluded Allaire Studios in the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York, a place recommended to them by admirer David Bowie. The record was then mixed by Alan Moulder with the band in London.

The 8 songs include opener (and 12” single) “Alone, Jealous and Stoned” - a bittersweet tale of longing, the joyous electric-pulse of new live favourites “Lightning Blue Eyes” and “Faded Lines”, the tense psychedelic epic “Daddy's In The Doldrums” and the Lennon-esque “I Want To Know If It's Still Possible” which features a guest appearance from Garth Hudson of The Band on accordian.
