The 18-year-old former Wizards of Waverly Place star refuted claims that her new music and relationship with Justin Bieber 'tarnish' her Disney image.
Appearing on Fox and Friends, she said, 'I have a right to live my life. I think I have done a very good job in the position that I have put in. I should be able to grow up.'
But she added, 'I have finished with Disney Channel, but that does not mean that I want to completely disown the fact that I do have a younger generation looking up at me.
'I feel like I've done the best I can. If I make my family proud and if I make my fans proud that's all that matters to me.'
Talking about her new movie, Monte Carlo, she revealed that it was nice to try her hand at a new medium.
'Monte Carlo was really fun for me. Obviously I haven't done a lot of film. So, this was that step in that direction,' she said.
