It's been a blockbuster year for Selena Gomez as we saw her transition from Disney starlet to Hollywood star.
Yet, it seems 2012 just got bigger for Gomez, as she was named as Glamour magazine's Woman of the Year.
Gomez graces the December cover looking old-Hollywood glam, in a long cream-colored gown with bright red lipstick surrounded by red balloons.
"Woman of the Year — I didn't even know I was a woman! I'm very honored... and it's a very, very big deal to me," Gomez told the magazine. "I'm going to hold it close to my heart."
Gomez was recognized by the magazine for not only her work in front of the camera, but off as well. Gomez is UNICEF's youngest ambassador ever and serves as ambassador for the Ryan Seacrest Foundation, which creates programs for pediatric hospitals for seriously injured children.
"She's giving back to people who need help, because of her own life experience," Gomez's close friend Taylor Swift told Glamour. "She's the exception to so many rules."
Gomez opened up to the magazine about her friendship with Swift and how their relationship is just as normal as any other friendship.
"Taylor's amazing. She's so smart and sweet and humble — and she's way more successful than I am! So when I see her after everything she's been through and she just wants to go home and bake cookies with me," Gomez said. "That, to me, is awesome."
Yet, her relationship with Swift wasn't the only topic discussed. She also touched upon the relationship she shares with boyfriend Justin Bieber's fans and understands why his Beliebers are sometimes overly protective of the pop star.
"I adore his fans. I would never, ever want to disrespect them," Gomez said. "You know, I get it: I was obsessed with Jesse McCartney growing up! He was my world. My high school crush. So I respect it, and if anything, I admire it."
Gomez doesn't seem to be slowing down in the new year, she will be reprising her role in a one-off "Wizards of Waverly Place" special, will be starring in several movie roles including, "Spring Breakers" and the spy thriller, "Getaway" and will be working on a new album.
"I have a thousand ideas," Gomez told in June about returning to music. "This album is going to be the first one that I'm actually going to spend as long as I want — it can be two months, it could be a whole year before this album comes out — so I'm going to have my freedom with it. It'll be, like, my tell-all, in a way."
