Surprisingly, it wasn't that much talked-about threesome that got tongues wagging on the set of "Spring Breakers." According to the film's young actresses, it was the jaw-dropping antics of real-life vacationers included in various party scenes.
"That's the craziest thing I've ever experienced," Selena Gomez told recently of filming with the extras. Co-stars Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine agreed.
"We would literally be doing takes, and we were surrounded by real spring breakers," Benson explained. "We were kind of thrown into this whole thing and just — I've never seen anything like it. Literally, girls would be making out and their clothes would come off, and I was like, 'Oh god, the bottoms!' And then they'd come off. [I was thinking], I don't even know what I'm doing here."
And if you think director Harmony Korine masterminded these displays, think again.
"Totally willingly by these girls," wife Rachel Korine said. "No one asked them to do it. You get to see us in the scenes react naturally to our environment because we didn't know what was about to happen."
For many of the young starlets who spent their teen years on television soundstages and movie sets, this was their first taste of the debauchery many co-eds experience during their collegiate years.
"I know we've never been on spring break, so I've never actually been to motel parties where you hop to each room," Gomez said. "That's what this was."
"Spring Breakers" is open in New York and L.A., and will expand nationwide on March 22.
