Dame Shirley Bassey has been confirmed to perform at Glastonbury June 24th 2007. The performance will be the jewel in the crown of her 70th birthday year which includes releasing her first single in 10 years 'The Living Tree on Lock Stock and Barrel Records and aiming to become the oldest artist ever to hit the Number 1 spot!
Those who saw Dame Shirley on her sell-out 2006 UK arena tour or as the face of the hugely successful M&S Christmas TV ad campaign will no doubt find it hard to believe that this is her 70th birthday year. Looking and sounding incredible her appeal is stronger than ever with fans young and old eagerly anticipating the release of The Living Tree.
With the release of The Living Tree, her first solo single for more than a decade, Dame Shirley returns with an incredible song written for her by songwriting partners Catherine Feeney and Nikki Lamborn, who together make up the London-based band, Never The Bride.
The duo had already recorded their version of the song, but convinced Dame Shirley it was right for her during a trip to Monte Carlo (where the legendary singer now lives). A chance encounter with the Dame in the gym of a 5 star hotel in the city led to Dame Shirley Bassey hearing and falling in love with the song and agreeing to record it. She later debuted it on 'Another Audience with Dame Shirley Bassey' on ITV1 and a further Royal Variety Performance cemented The Living Tree as a Bassey Classic with fans and music lovers across the world.
Catherine Feeney of Never the Bride who co-wrote the song with Nikki Lamborn said: "Recording The Living Tree with Dame Shirley was a day to remember. She arrived at the studio, complete with a jar of honey to sooth her throat after a performance the night before, an IPod for her vocal warm up exercises and of course her wonderful voice, what a Dame! We're honoured to be working with this truly unique artist who has inspired generations".
