Rising pop superstar Sky Ferreira has encouraged more artists to speak up against their record labels, after Lily Allen recently blamed hers for making her release 'rubbish' singles.
Allen recently agreed with a Twitter critic who called her recent release 'rubbish' and 'disappointing'. Ferreira is no stranger to speaking her mind, having hit out at her label in October 2013 when they refused to release her debut album, Night Time, My Time, on vinyl. She has now revealed why it was important to her to make a stand, and believes more artists should do the same.
"If someone feels like that, they should stand up for themselves."
"I can imagine people trying to make that happen, but at the end of the day, you have to be willing to fight for it, but sometimes you have, like, a gun held to your head. You never know the situation I guess."
Discussing her own record label battles, the '24 Hours' singer also added that she had battled against bosses for years before finally making an impact with her brilliant debut album.
"I'd been shelved for years," she continued. "I was shut down and told it was never going to work, 10,000 times, but now it has started to work."
"Initially I was paying for the vinyl release myself, but my label saw the reaction it got when I said I was going to do my own vinyl. It was going to make them look bad if they didn't do it."
