Psychedelic funk legends, Sly and the Family Stone, have confirmed a one off UK show this year. The first major American rock band to have a multicultural line up will descend upon Bournemouth on July 28th and tear The Opera House down with their innovative and pioneering funk force. Active from 1967 to 1983, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. The band have had many line up changes over the years and many departures caused by drug problems and ego clashes.
Formed as an r&b band in the late 60's by brothers Sly and Freddie Stone, with a collection of family members and friends, they switched to a grittier funkier sound for the 70's. Such is their status in the African American music world, its been suggested that there are two types of black music, black music before Sly Stone and black music after Sly Stone.
Well worth catching the music legend, and you could enjoy the south coast at the same time. What more could you possibly want? Dance To The Music, It's a Family Affair – classics. Dorset on July 28 will be the coolest place on the planet, for one night only.
