In possibly the most spectacular display of hip hop excess, Snoop Dogg has attempted to hire out an entire country for a video shoot.
Dogg had plans to make us of the tiny central European country Liechtenstein to shoot a video, but didn't allow enough time to work through the paperwork.
That's right, it wasn't a case of the country saying "No, sorry, we're booked out that day," or "we'd love to have you, but we'll have to put it to a vote." It was a matter of time.
Liechtenstein property agent Karl Schwaerzler told The Daily Mirror "We've had requests for palaces and villages but never one to hire the whole country before. It would have been possible. (But Snoop Dogg's management) did not give us enough time."
The government have denied any deal to rent out the whole country, with Liechtenstein's US ambassador Claudia Fritsche telling the New York Post that "there is no "For Rent" sign on our country. No part of any government agency is involved in this."
However, on the other side of the coin, Trip Atlas reports that "In June 2003 the state tourism agency decided to give a boost to the country's tourism by offering to rent out the country to businesses and other organisations for conference hosting, weddings, or other such events. The company will be given keys to the capital city and be offered a team building/touristy activities and attractions, such as wine-tasting, tobogganing, and full access to one of the country's royal castles. Liechtenstein is a little smaller in area than the capital of the United States, Washington, D.C..
"Karl Schwarzler, along with the entire nation of Liechtenstein, was awarded the Ig Nobel Prize in Economics in 2003 for this unique enterprise."
It should be noted that the Ig Nobel Prizes are not affiliated with the prestigious Swedish prizes, and are an American award presented to people who "make you laugh, then make you think".
So did Snoop try to rent out Liechtenstein' I choose to believe he did.
