It's been 12 years since The Lox released a group album, but during Wednesday's episode of "RapFix Live," Swizz Beatz confirmed that he and DJ Khaled are in the preliminary stages of helping the Yonkers trio to put together a new project.
Last month, while previewing the new Wu-Block album, Sheek Louch told that Swizz and Khaled would be helming the project, and although Swizz admits that it's not set in stone, he is working to make it happen.
"That's the goal through communications," Swizz said of producing the album. "I just vibed out with Styles P, Kiss and Sheek, and I just gave them 15 joints with choruses and ideas because we have to start somewhere. I thought it was a great idea to bring Khaled into it as well, just to give it something different, but still in the lines of that chemistry, because Khaled is definitely a fan of the Lox and I thought it would be a great collaboration."
Finding time to record, thanks to their hectic schedules, seems to be the leading problem. "It's not all the way in stone yet because Khaled's super busy. I'm super busy. The Lox are super busy, but it's a main goal for us to really make that happen," Swizz continued. "I think it'd be super great for hip-hop culture, especially when you got up-and-coming artists like Kendrick Lamar doing numbers like that just based off real music."
Swizz was referring to Kendrick Lamar's first studio album good kid, m.A.A.d city, which debuted at #2 on the charts. "I wanna commend him because that's what it's about," he continued. "To see somebody that put in that work that really had concepts and interludes that tied into the songs — I'm amazed by that album."
Sheek told that other hip-hop moguls have expressed interested in their next group album, but Swizz and Khaled are their top choices at the moment. "Lil Wayne tried to sign us, Puff tried to re-sign us and paint that picture over, we done been in mother----ers' living rooms and talkin' business," he said. "The meeting we just had with Swizz and Khaled about executive producing this project was the one that grabbed us and we're gonna give y'all some real, real big records."
