Arcade Fire were named Best International Group and won the International Album award for The Suburbs.
The Critics' Choice award went to Jessie J who says the award will spur her on to go and do great things.
MTV viewers voted Justin Bieber for the International Breakthrough Act award.
Cheryl Cole presented Rihanna with the International Female award but was beaten herself to the British Female Solo Artist award by Laura Marling.
