The Feeling are back with a new album, a new label and a whole new lease of life. 'Boy Cried Wolf' is out on October 7th on the band's new home BMG Chrysalis. And it's an absolute gem of a record.
The band's frontman, Dan Gillespie Sells, can pinpoint the precise moment that Boy Cried Wolf came into being. He had returned to London alone after spending Christmas 2011 in the English countryside, his five-year relationship in tatters, his head in turmoil. Sitting alone in the East London pub he bought and converted into a home/studio, Dan did what all born writers do in such situations: he plonked himself down at the piano, and wrote a song.
The result, 'You'll See', is one of the many highlights of an album which, like The Feeling's multi-platinum 2006 debut, 'Twelve Stops And Home', the band recorded and produced themselves. It's a record fuelled and informed by a powerful sense of liberation: from relationships, from their previous record label, and from themselves.
"We were just in our little bubble again," says Dan. "There was this sense that there wasn't any pressure on us now to be anything other than what we are."
You can hear that freedom, that reaffirmed love, in every soaring melody, nagging hook and pin-sharp lyric of the album (their fourth). It is the sound of a band reborn and renewed. Music born of heartache, the 11 new songs end up reaffirming the idea of love as a force for good.
Yes, The Feeling are back. And they're better than ever.
