The Gaslight Anthem have revealed that The 1975 were a huge influence on their new album, giving it 'a completely different vibe'.
Frontman Brian Fallon was speaking to NME when he opened up about what pushed the band in a new direction.
"You get a realisation at some point in your career that whatever it is you do, you can no longer continue to do it," he said. "You just realise you can't put out the same records forever."
The album, which is due for release on August 18, is the American band's fifth and according to the band pulls heavily from The 1975's debut album, The 1975.
Tracking down the producer for the album, Mike Crossey, the band began exploring different avenues: "We were like, 'well that sounds different – what would happen if a band like us works with a guy who makes records sound like that?'".
Surprised with the outcome, Fallon continued: "I think people are going to be like, 'Wow, I didn't know a band that play punk rock could play something that heavy, or something that pretty. I think also there are some songs that are realy calm, and I don't know if people knew that we could do that. I didn't know that we could do that."
