When the news broke in April 2012 that London's The King Blues were to split, Twitter went into overdrive trending world wide.
Rumours abounded, reading like something out of 101 Rock N' Roll Cliches: drink & drug problems, inter-band warfare and more egos than Sigmund Freud would care to entertain. Just to add to the Spinal Tap-esque vibe, the split occured in that very capital of madness: Los Angeles.
It all seemed a far cry from the band's beginnings in Camden Town, playing squat parties and bringing their unique blend of punk & ska to an ever-growing army of fans.
Fittingly then, it is in Camden that Itch, Jamie & co have left us with a reminder of their incendiary live performance. Recorded live at the legendary Roundhouse, The King Blues: Live At The Roundhouse is a 21-song strong document of the group's final and biggest headline show to date from November 2011.
The band's finest moments are all captured: 'Let's Hang The Landlord', 'Five Bottles of Shampoo', 'Set The World On Fire' and 'Holiday' as well as a hint of what was to come from their swansong album (Long Live The Struggle) in the form of 'Modern Life Has Let Me Down'.
From the moment The King Blues hit the stage, the energy, power and polemic cuts through. Singer Itch Fox is in fine voice, getting his message across behind a wall of sound courtesy of Jamie Jazz (guitar), Kat Marsh (bass), Dean Ashton (guitar), Josie Dobson (keyboards) and Jack Usher (drums). The ultimate stars of this album however, may well be the band's audience. .
