Fopp is pleased to announce that The Maccabees will be appearing in four UK Fopp stores in late February and early March. The Maccabees are a young band making big strides towards becoming part of this grand tradition. A decidedly English guitar pop band, whose worldview has been formed by influences as disparate as the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, television cricket coverage and growing up in south London, this is a group with a unique slant on things, and who are eager to share it.
Formed in 2003, when singer Orlando Weeks began rehearsing in his bedroom with drummer Robert Thomas, bass player Rupert Jarvis and guitar-playing brothers Hugo and Felix White, the band started to play live almost straight away. The Maccabees' sound is built on the fast but fascinatingly intricate guitar of the White brothers, but it's their ability with a pop hook that truly marks them out.
The band are now gearing up to release their new single 'About Your Dress' and to celebrate they will be appearing at the following Fopp Stores:
Fopp Manchester, Monday February 26th at 5.30pm (signing only)
Fopp London, Camden, Tuesday February 27th at 5.30pm (signing only)
Fopp Brighton, Thursday 1st March at 5.30pm (live instore performance)
Fopp Cambridge, Friday 2nd March at 1pm (Live instore performance)
Fopp's flagship Tottenham Court Rd store is now home to a fully licensed venue/bar and café area, where you can grab a coffee and wind-down in Fopp's café area or enjoy a drink or two at the bar.
