The Orwells have offered an apology of sorts after making comments that seemed to criticise Arctic Monkeys' live shows.
The US band, who supported Arctic Monkeys on their recent American tour, discussed the band's tendency to play the same set every night, including the between song ad-libs from Alex Turner.
Lead singer Mario Cuomo was keen to dismiss this technique. "You can reach that level without turning into that," he said. "Like Nirvana played bigger shit than that and it's probably a different show every night. You don't have to take that route, you can get that level of success with those size venues, that sort of thing, but still treat is as a spontaneous show at a small club."
During a small headline show at East London's The Pavilion on Wednesday night (16 April), Mario Cuomo contronted the controversial comments, joking: "That's from our new album, AM", before adding, "We would never slag off the biggest band in England right now."
The band then proceeded to perform an hour-long set for the 170 people who had managed to fit into the tiny venue, though they were halted a few times due to technical issues.
