The Police have described one of their first comeback shows as "unbelievably lame", in a damning statement on their return to rock.

Drummer Stewart Copeland posted the stark comments on his official website this week, after the group had played their second concert in Vancouver, Canada.

Calling Sting "a petulant pansy", Copeland admitted the band are "totally at sea", as they embark on their first world tour in over 20 years.

Speaking about Wednesday's gig at the GM Place Arena, Copeland commented: "This is unbelievably lame. We are the mighty Police and we are totally at sea."

He suggested many of the 20,000 people at the show would not have noticed the many mistakes made by the band, but said the opening section, which features a gong, was "a damp squib".

Apparently "Synchronicity II" saw a mis-timed leap by the group's frontman, as Copeland explained: "The mighty Sting momentarily looks like a petulant pansy instead of the god of rock."

He continued: "It usually takes about four or five shows in a tour before you get to the disaster gig. But we're The Police so we are a little ahead of schedule.
