Tom Hanks admits he's not a fan of his son's rap music.
The two-time Oscar-winner's 24-year-old son Chester with wife Rita Wilson is a rapper who goes by the professional name Chet Haze.
And while Tom has revealed his taste in lyrics is very different to his son's, he says he's no less proud of his achievements and for getting out there and "doing it".
"I can't honestly say I love to hear some of the language in it but that's not just his stuff, that's a lot of other people's as well," he told the Daily News at Tuesday's American Spirit Awards.
"What I love about my kid is that he's doing it. A lot of people sit around and wait for the phone to ring and wait for someone to invite them to do it and my kid has done it, he's been doing it for six years."
While Chet sought treatment in rehab for cocaine addiction just last year, he is doing well with his recovery with the support of his famous family.
Also dad to son Truman with Rita and older children Colin and Elizabeth from his first marriage to actress Samantha Lewes, Tom insisted all four of his kids are independent and never asked for a leg up or advice from him – "and rightly so".
"I don't have any secret knowledge that can help them advance. I always say to them, 'Send it to me when you think it's done' and when they think it's done they send it to me. I can only be a fan of what they've created," he explained. "I've got no secrets to impart to anybody. I wish I did."
