Vampire Weekend played the opening night of Liverpool Music Week and reports from the Carling Academy say they absolutely smashed it. The venue was packed out with members of the crowd climbing on shoulders just to get a glimpse of the band. Picking off the tracks from their highly sucessful debut album they even managed a very special cover of Fleetwood Mac's – 'Everywhere' with the crowds in full chorus.
Over at Nation, normally home to the Cream nightclub, an altogether different sound was booming out as punk legends The Fall took to the stage. They did not fail to disappoint the most diverse crowd ever seen at Liverpool Music Week. Both the original fans who were reliving their moments from the infamous Liverpool venue Eric's to fans that have clearly come down to experience 'real' Punk! There was even a full family present and with such a spectrum of generations the atmosphere was electric!
The free shows around the city centre were also packed out, with the hotly anticipated NME favourite Eugenne McGuiness kicking off his tour by opening up the LMW main host venue, Bumper.
The week continues with a Halloween special from the Bestival Reunion tour at Nation tonight with The Mystery Jets, Kissy Sell out (LIVE), The Cuban Brothers, Rob Da Bank, Sombrero soundsystem, and special guests The Presets. Tickets are still available on the door.
