Vampire Weekend Score Second #1 Debut With Modern Vampires

Vampire Weekend will take a giant bite out of the Billboard 200 album chart when they score their second #1 debut with their third album, Modern Vampires of the City.
 The disc moved 134,000 copies, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, giving them their best first week to date.

Demi Lovato also had a record week, moving 110,000 copies of Demi
 for her best career chart bow. The only other new face in the top 10 was country veteran George Strait, whose Love is Everything landed at #2 thanks to sales of 120,000.

The Jay-Z-curated soundtrack to "The Great Gatsby" slipped two spots in its second week to #4 (95,000) and last week's #1, Lady Antebellum's Golden, slipped 67 percent to #5.

In the week before their first new studio album in eight years, Random Access Memories,
 hits the charts, Daft Punk's 2001 classic, Discovery, came back into the tally at 104, as sales picked up 110 percent to nearly 4,000.

Things were a bit different on the iTunes chart, where the "Gatsby" album topped Vampire Weekend and Lovato, with Daft Punk pre-orders coming in at #4.

In addition to Daft Punk, next week will bring debuts from Thirty Seconds to Mars, The National and French Montana.

Hangout Festival
 performers Macklemore & Ryan Lewis continue to reign on the Digital Songs chart, where "Can't Hold Us" moved another 231,000 downloads, withstanding a furious charge from Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines," which jumped 21 spots to #2 as sales ballooned by 204 percent to 206,000.

Pink was at #3 with "Just Give me a Reason" (193,000), Florida Georgia Line held steady at #4 with "Cruise" (189,000) and Selena Gomez moved up one to #5 with "Come & Get It" (164,000). Justin Timberlake's "Mirrors" was down three spots to #6 (156,000), Imagine Dragons hung at #7 with "Radioactive" (141,000) while Lana Del Rey's "Young and Beautiful" was up 57 percent and 10 spots to #9 (121,000). Rounding out the top 10 was Daft Punk's "Get Lucky," which was up seven spots on sales of 118,000.
