Will Smith has come out swinging in defence of Justin Bieber.
The 44-year-old actor's 14-year-old son Jaden is known to be friends with the Baby hitmaker.
Despite Justin being drowned in controversy in recent months, veteran star Will doesn't think he's a bad influence.
On the contrary Will says it is "hugely important to support young artists" like the pop star.
The actor was with his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith when he spoke to American celebrity news outlet Extra on the red carpet at a New York event on Wednesday night about the "war" against up-and-coming stars.
"We think it is hugely important to support young artists, there is a war against that kind of artistry, that kind of creation," Will explained.
He also cautioned critics that Justin is just like any other teenager.
The difference is he's having to discover who he is in the spotlight.
"When somebody is 19-years-old, they are going to do what they are going to do just like we did," Will reasoned.
Justin is said to have turned to the actor recently in the wake of several personal controversies.
In the last few weeks alone he's reportedly been thrown out of a London club, had an altercation with paparazzo and a spat with his neighbour in Los Angeles, California that has launched a police investigation.
Will confirmed the pair have been in touch. He said he'll always be there as a sounding board for the young star.
"For me, the most important thing was for him to know anytime he can call and I'll come, whatever happens," Will insisted.
