Ex-Fugee Wyclef Jean's application to run for Haitian President has been denied.
Reuters reports that an election official said, "He is not on the list as I speak"; the list being the approved candidates.
The implication is that he didn't satisfy legal requirements to run for office, one being that candidates must have lived in Haiti for the previous five years.
Jean had hoped that being appointed as an ambassador for the country in 2007 would be enough to qualify him.
The electoral official told Reuters that there were actually several requirements Jean did not meet.
Reuters contacted Jean, who declined to make a statement until he had confirmed his absence from the list.
There have been reports that candidates who did not end up on the list, of 30 that applied for candidacy, could stir up violent protests in the beleaguered nation.
