Zayn Malik and Calvin Harris got into a war of words via Twitter on Monday.
The spat occurred after another user posted opposing quotes from 25-year-old singer Taylor Swift, who is Calvin's girlfriend, and fellow musician Miley Cyrus. While Taylor's statements were discussing her decision to remove her music from Spotify as she believes musicians don't benefit financially from the streaming service, Miley's quote sees her saying she doesn't care if people buy her albums as she's already made enough money.
Zayn retweeted the post, which led to Calvin replying to the original user and the 22-year-old.
"You've made your money? Cool…f**k the 99% of musicians who depend on these services to survive right? Yeah f**k em (sic)," Calvin began, before adding further posts. "If u don't get what it means when a successful artist uses their celebrity to benefit every other musician and songwriter in the industry stay out my f**kin mentions pls.(sic)"
The 31-year-old added that while fans fawned over the stars at the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday, there were musicians making the next big hit in their basements, trying to earn an honest living.
"Meaning…stay out of things you don't understand (sic)," he added.
Zayn was quick to reply saying that the Summer hitmaker had made a fool of himself. The star then seemed to refer to Calvin's recent outing as an Armani model with his next tweet.
"you clearly didn't understand what I just said either. so i suggest you calm your knickers before them dentures fall out (sic)," he said.
While Calvin then clarified his original post, telling Zayn his message was regarding the quotes in general and not aimed at him directly, the former One Direction star wouldn't let it go. Getting personal again, Zayn seemed to refer to the rumours that have occasionally circulated around Calvin and whether he comes up with his own song lyrics, which the Scot has always insisted that he does.
"Oh and I write my own sh*t too d**khead (sic)," he wrote.
However Calvin bit his tongue and replied: "best of luck, genuinely. You've got a great voice. (sic)".
Taylor has yet to comment on their social media exchange.
