Starrfadu Biography
Starrfadu was started in the Fall of 2000 by Singer/Songwriter Austin Hartley. After a few area shows with various musicians, Brian Moody (drums) and Dave Martin (bass) would eventually join permanently. In 2001 the band (independently) released a 4-track EP, entitled "The Joys in Feeling Sorry for Yourself." Which featured a mix of Folk Rock, Punk, Acoustic and Experimental. The band was starting to get a decent area following, and a 'wild card' win would eventually earn them 2nd place in a month-long local Battle of the Bands. In 2003 the band decided to give up the "aspiring rock star" mindset and focus more on what Hartley felt they did the best... personable acoustic sets. Loud amps, electric guitars, and energetic live shows were soon replaced by a more intimate and conversational vibe. Starrfadu merch would take on the "Sit and Listen" slogan; and loyal fans came to appreciate the honesty of the band's decision. Though now known (when playing live) to be a three-piece acoustic band, their independently-released 2005 album, entitled "A Narrow Road to Silence," would bring a more produced sound. Named as one of the "Best Local Albums of 2005" by the Springfield News-Leader, the band also found their music making it's way outside of the local scene onto both College Radio and even XM Satellite Radio. Towards the end of 2006 the band was contacted about using "Let It Out" as the soundtrack to an up-coming international Kleenex ad campaign - Kleenex: Let It Out. The song was a perfect fit, and in January of 2007 the band went from being known locally, to being featured on BBC Radio 1 by Jo Whiley... after emails and text messages wanted to know who the band behind the new Kleenex ads were? In October of 2007 the band released a new full-length album (again, independently), entitled "And Yes... Our Thoughts Were Elsewhere." This album brought a noticeable focus on areas missed in previous recordings, and the growth/maturity of the band is apparent. With the release of their new album just beginning to make it's way out to the public, the band is excited about what the future holds.
