After a few darker projects, Anne Hathaway just might be ready to laugh again. The actress has been attached to the Mindy Kaling-penned romantic comedy, "The Low Self-Esteem of Lizzie Gillespie."
Hathaway is reportedly in talks to star as the lead in the film, which follows a woman with low self-esteem whose life changes when a really hot guy wants to date her. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kaling is likely to tackle a supporting role in the film, which she wrote with "The Office" co-writer Brent Forrester, who also wrote for "The Simpsons" and "King of the Hill."
The project is still in development and a director has yet to be hired.
Hathaway just burned up the box office as Catwoman in "The Dark Knight Rises" and she will next flex her musical theater chops in Tom Hooper's big-screen adaptation of "Les Miserables". The director gushed to MTV News recently about her "breathtaking" performance in the flick, saying he and the crew were "staggered" by her take on Fantine.
Meanwhile, Kaling is back on the small screen this season. After leaving "The Office," she just kicked off her buzzy Fox sitcom, "The Mindy Project," last month. On the show, coincidentally, her OBGYN character is obsessed with rom-coms and the pursuit of true love.
"I mean one thing that's really fun is like when you come from 'The Office' and then you go to play a character who has, like, disposable income and lives in New York City," she told us about the show. "I get to wear sometimes, like, kind of cool clothes. It's like when you create a show and you get to actually let yourself wear cool clothes. Cause I worked in Scranton. I worked at a paper company in Scranton."
