A$AP Ferg has a fool-proof system when choosing his collaborators. So when it was time to construct a lineup for the remix to his breakout single "Work," the Trap Lord knew just who to call.
"I chose the artist I chose because they're all my friends. I got this thing, like, if you're not on my phonebook then I'm not really talking to you or messin' with you on a record," Fergenstein told when we crashed his video set in Los Angeles on April 10.
Ferg is down to make a single exception however. "I'm trying to get R. Kelly on a song," he said of the R&B king.
For the official "Work" remix Ferg gathered A$AP Rocky, French Montana, Schoolboy Q and Trinidad James. He filmed the video in two parts with scenes in Los Angeles and his native Harlem. "I didn't even know that Q or Rocky was gonna be on it," James said of making his decision to appear before he even knew the track's full roster. "I just liked the song a lot; the visual was amazing."
Q didn't know he was going to be on the track either, because he was Ferg's first choice to jump on the song before the remix even started to take form. "Schoolboy Q is TDE family. We went on tour with him and Q actually, I was like 'I want you on the remix before everybody,'" Ferg said.
"That's a banger, Ferg did his stuff on there," Q added. "I told him I wanted to get on it, before the remix I just wanted to be on it."
