Black Crowes singer returns

The Black Crowes have taken their place in rock history but former Crowes members are pursuing solo projects.

The former lead singer, Chris Robinson will release his second solo album in late June with his revamped band The New Earth Mud. For the new album, This Magnificent Distance, Robinson has written five of the songs and worked with band member Paul Stacey on another six songs. Robinson was involved with production on every track. Songs incorporate elements of rock, blues, folk, country, soul and jazz.

Meanwhile, his younger brother and former Crowes guitarist Rich Robinson is preparing the release of his long-awaited solo debut. Due out this summer, the album will showcase Rich's vocals, an opportunity never provided with the Black Crowes. A title hasn't been decided for the album and the song list has not been set but most of the included tracks will clock in at more than five minutes. Robinson is hoping for a summer release.

Chris Robinson will begin touring in support of This Magnificent Distance at the end of this month. The tour will run through mid-July. Part of the tour includes dates supporting The Allman Brothers Band. The New Earth Mud includes former Black Crowe Audley Freed (guitar), George Reiff (bass), Steve Distanislao (drums) and Rob Barraco (keyboards).
