Black Keys Celebrate Grammy Wins Onstage With Dr. John

At Sunday night's (February 10) Grammy Awards, The Black Keys celebrated their wins with a Cajun-flavored performance of El Camino standout "Lonely Boy." Joining them on the big stage was Best Blues Album winner and all-around music legend Dr. John (continuing a long tradition of the Grammys pairing up-and-comers with like-minded veterans). Dr. John, dressed in head-to-toe feathers, kicked off the song before handing off the track's bluesy riff to Black Keys guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney.

Dr. John and the Black Keys go way back; the two share the same label (Nonesuch Records) and Auerbach played guitar on, and produced, Dr. John's winning album Locked Down. Also onstage were fellow New Orleans natives the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, who, notably, jammed at Bonnaroo with Dr. John and Auerbach back in 2011. (Fun fact: The Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival is actually named after a Dr. John album).

The Black Keys' tight performance showed no signs of the half-joking rivalry between Auerbach and Carney. Because of Auerbach's Producer of the Year win, he actually takes home one more Grammy tonight than the awards he shares with Carney.

Just before they ripped through "Lonely Boy," the pair were onstage to collect their trophy for Best Rock Performance for that song (where they quickly thanked producer Brian Burton, better known as Danger Mouse). They snagged Best Rock Song and Best Rock Album before the televised show began.

It was a fitting cap to a year that saw the Akron, Ohio, natives score multiple Grammy noms and platinum status around the world. El Camino's "Gold on the Ceiling" also appeared seemingly everywhere last year, from the 2012 NCAA championships to the summer Olympics. And the duo got to play "Gold on the Ceiling" at last year's MTV Movie Awards with Johnny Depp. We're pretty sure Dr. John might just be Johnny Depp, 30 years into the future.
