The Black Keys had the Grammys on lock even before Taylor Swift took the Staples Center stage Sunday (February 10) night.
The pre-Grammy telecast revealed that the Akron, Ohio, band beat out Jack White, Mumford & Sons, Muse and Bruce Springsteen to take home Best Rock Song for their El Camino hit "Lonely Boy." When we caught up with the Black Keys' Patrick Carney just a few days ago, the blues-rock drummer joked that even more than a gilded gramophone, he hoped the band's potential Grammy win would come with a Kanye West interruption. While we weren't exactly graced with a 2013 version of "Imma let you finish" (and probably for the best of everyone involved), the Keys' El Camino earned Best Rock Album in a category of Grammy veterans including Muse, Coldplay, Jack White and Bruce Springsteen.
On behalf of the Recording Academy, Dave Grohl and Pauley Perrette crowned the Black Keys the winners of Best Rock Performance for "Lonely Boy," with the band defeating Alabama Shakes, Coldplay, Mumford & Sons and Springsteen. Black Keys guitarist and vocalist Dan Auerbach also had a successful night individually, earning the award for Producer of the Year. Later in the evening, the Black Keys delivered a stellar performance of their winning hit "Lonely Boy" with Dr. John and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
The Black Keys are currently working on their next studio effort and plan to release the album in March. The band's 2011 album, El Camino, was the second-highest-selling album on Billboard's 2012 Top Rock Albums year-end chart, following Mumford & Sons' Babel.
