The former Westlife star said his song Just The Way You Are (Drunk At The Bar) is actually a tribute to his fiancée Delta Goodrem, with whom he lives in Sydney.
But it has become controversial for containing the line: 'I like you just the way you are, drunk in the back seat of my car' and 'drunk as shit dancing at the bar”.
McFadden said he wrote the song after watching Goodrem getting giddy on half a glass of champagne.
He said: “Some guys get really annoyed, they get all peed off because their girlfriend has had a few drinks, but for me I actually find it cute and adorable, and I watch her and I keep laughing because she just giggles the whole time ... and then obviously it’s just boy slang, I’m not actually saying I’m going to do some damage ... it’s quite an Irish thing to say ... how that’s been twisted into that I’m promoting date rape is just crazy.”
Speaking to 2DayFMin Sydney, he added: “What I am doing, walking round with a placard for date rape? It’s just stupid.”
